John Latham, one time leader of the Australian Labor Party and opponent of Prime Minister John Howard in the 2004 elections has just released his "diaries." The scenario in the article below didn't actually take place but represents what a middling portion of Australian citizens may be thinking or might like to say...Chet
PM Latham rips stripes off US

Australia's relationship with the United States took a dramatic new turn last night, with the Prime Minister, Mark Latham, forcefully telling President Bush in Washington that it was time for plain speaking between friends.
On his first visit to the White House since winning the federal election last October, Mr Latham told a state dinner hosted by the President that he was, as he put it, "jack of all your Yank bullshit".
"Fair suck of the sausage, George. In my book, you're the most dangerous bastard on the face of the planet since Attila the Hun," Mr Latham said before a glittering audience in the Lincoln Dining Room which included the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, the defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, and the cream of the Bush Administration's foreign policy establishment.
"The ANZUS treaty isn't worth a roll of dunny paper. You can shove it up your clacker," he added. "And don't give us that 'saving Australia' crap. You Septics only got into the Second World War because the sushi-munchers bombed you into it."
Observers at the dinner said President Bush appeared puzzled by some of the Prime Minister's more colourful remarks. Also taken by surprise, White House officials said the text of the speech would probably have to be rendered into English by CIA translators familiar with Australian slang.
Australian diplomats, though, were keen to stress the dinner had ended on an upbeat note as Mr Latham entertained the guests with ribald anecdotes about football club keg and stripper barbecues in Sydney's south-western suburbs. smh
US Troops to Nigeria?
Nigeria is in a state of civil unrest. Armed thugs have forced oil companies and workers to evacuate the key producing region of Port Harcourt. Nigeria was the worlds 7th largest exporter of oil in 2004...Chet
