Brits Were (Still?) PO'd About Hold Up of Emergency Food
The US held up British emergency rations targeted for Katrina refugees for five days because of fears about safety of European meat. The rations were standard military rations designed to feed British soldiers (you know the only other ones fighting in Iraq with us), but again the nasty spectre of American boondogglese showed its colors. It's almost as though some of these officials in charge, be it FEMA or HomeLand Security, act like trainees at a McDonalds ("I'll let you talk to my supervisor sir"). Whatever you do, don't make a decision, don't make a mistake. The shipment of 400,000 food packs sat on the ground in Texas and Arkansas rather than being delivered to New Orleans or the Astrodome. The US had requested 500,000 units. Shipment of the remaining 100,000 packs was suspended...Chet
